A customer bought your countertop coffee scale without reading the comparison chart your team spent weeks building. Their first clear contact with your brand might be an order message or the box on their doorstep. If the name on that box does not match what they remember buying, a polished launch film is unlikely to solve the immediate problem.
Discovery and service have different owners
In a November 4, 2026 announcement, Commerce.com said eligible U.S. Feedonomics customers could select Feedonomics in Amazon’s Shop Direct Merchant Workspace to connect an existing catalog. Amazon’s developer documentation says Shop Direct is available in the U.S. store. Customers may be directed to a merchant site or, in some cases, purchase from it using Amazon’s Buy for me feature. The merchant continues to handle shipping, delivery, returns, exchanges and customer service. Neither source guarantees a particular merchant or SKU is eligible, that every customer bypasses the store, or that connecting a feed drives sales.
Run the ONCE first-contact check before briefing your factory
Choose one eligible SKU. Walk an approved storefront test and any Shop Direct path you can legitimately test; label the paths you cannot observe. Ask a colleague who has never seen the landing page to reconstruct the purchase from the materials a customer would actually receive.
- Recognize the order. Can they connect the product name they remember with the merchant and item in the first confirmation? Ask support whether it can find the order using information the customer sees.
- Start using the product. Give them the actual packaging and insert. For the hypothetical scale, a quick-start card might explain where to find the controls, while a short clip could show the difference between reading the empty vessel and zeroing it. Film only a verified step that a still or simple instruction does not explain well.
- Find the right help. Try a simulated return inquiry from the real confirmation or package insert. Confirm that the entry point reaches the merchant’s approved process. Keep mutable policy details on a maintained page rather than baking them into video.
Assign the fix to the team that can make it
If the merchandising name differs from the factory carton, coordinate the label and order language before paying for a film. If the correct support destination already exists but the buyer cannot find it, fix the handoff. If a physical motion is still unclear, brief your China production partner on one approved product action, the exact unit shipped and where the clip will be found. Ask for a short standalone cut that starts by identifying the device. For a broader shoot, ONCE’s commercial production guide shows how to scope campaign versions; price this onboarding task separately, because it needs a different acceptance test.
Leave the pilot with a record of what the customer saw, the owner of each fix and what triggers another check. That record is reusable when the factory changes an insert or the brand moves its support pages. Treat improvements in returns or sales as hypotheses for measurement, not as benefits established by the integration announcement.
