Generative 3D models are best used initially to help teams determine if a direction is worth pursuing. In the product ad stage, models must withstand close-ups, reflections, material swaps, accurate scaling, and multi-platform versions; do not proceed to final production based solely on attractive preview images.
Treat Generated Outputs as Rough Models First
Research Seed 0916 previously covered text- or image-to-3D services, noting that meshes, UVs, and PBR materials could be imported into standard DCC software. That was a 2024 product report and should not be taken as a universal spec sheet for all current services. Always refer to the latest terms of service and export documentation before use.
The first review covers four points: Does the model scale match product specs? Does the silhouette reflect the true appearance? Is the topology editable? Can the UVs support branded textures? Polygon counts can be relaxed for concept storyboards, but edges, joints, and assembly relationships must be rechecked for product close-ups.
Calibrate Materials Using Real-World References
PBR materials are not just a 'metal' toggle. Roughness, normals, color space, texture resolution, and reflection environments all affect the final image. The product team should provide prototype photos, color swatches, and surface finish specs. If specular highlights are inconsistent, the issue may lie in lighting, textures, or normals rather than the model generation itself.
Create a Small Validation Package.
- Front and three-quarter angle product shots
- One texture replacement and logo change
- One material roughness adjustment
- One reflection test under different ambient lighting
- One reopening in Blender or another DCC application

Licensing and delivery must be documented separately
Model source, input images, generation timestamp, service version, and license scope must be recorded in asset logs. Commercial use, modification, redistribution, and training data disclosures are distinct matters. If brand logos, personal likenesses, or identifiable designs appear in the model, legal review is required before advertising deployment.
Retain original generated files, cleaned project files, textures, material specifications, export formats, and version hashes upon final delivery. This ensures generative 3D remains a traceable production step rather than a one-off screenshot.
