A sourcing team watches a supplier in China choose a boxed countertop appliance for inspection. The camera cuts to a bench where a visually identical unit is ready to test. The measurements may be clear, but they cannot answer the buyer’s first question: is that the selected unit?

Keep the inspection plan separate from the camera plan

The January 2026 third edition of ISO 2859-1 describes acceptance sampling schemes for lot-by-lot inspection by attributes, indexed by acceptance quality limit. It is a reference for the inspection method, not an endorsement of remote video as a substitute for inspection. Ask the designated quality lead to set the lot, selection method and acceptance criteria. The production team can then make the selected unit traceable on camera.

Brief the handoff from the pallet to the bench

ONCE’s sample handoff card has three checkpoints. Start with a wide view that relates the selected carton to the approved lot or storage position, followed by a readable shot of the agreed sample identifier. When responsibility moves between people or rooms, log who passed and received the unit, when they did so, and how they verified its identifier or seal. At the bench, show the identity check before cutting to the instrument. Log the timecode beside the inspection record.

For the hypothetical appliance, stage cameras around the moment a warehouse employee hands the closed carton to the inspector. One continuous view may be enough. If cameras must change, capture an overlap that shows the same transfer and identifier. Check which labels may be shown before the call; arrange an approved inspection identifier if an original label contains another buyer’s information.

Test the gap before the real call

Ask the crew to simulate a feed drop during the transfer. Resume from a verifiable checkpoint only if the inspection owner accepts the pre-agreed identity evidence. Otherwise mark the segment as unverified and let the quality lead decide whether to select again or inspect on site. A later reenactment can explain the procedure, but it cannot fill an evidentiary gap in the original recording.

For your China production brief, quote the handoff coverage and sample-indexed records separately from any factory showcase film. At acceptance, ask a colleague to locate one unit’s selection, transfer and bench check without watching the whole meeting. That is a useful measure of the video deliverable; the lot decision still belongs to the inspector.
