A report says your brand increased creator advertising investment. Yet the money might have purchased ad space alongside creator content without commissioning that creator. It might instead have amplified an existing sponsored post or funded a new collaboration. These are different purchases.

ONCE recommends establishing the relationship, the asset and the placement before approving a brief. Appearing near someone’s content does not, by itself, establish that they participated in your campaign.

Read the investment definition before using the headline

IAB’s 2025 Creator Economy Ad Spend & Strategy Report introduction, published November 20, 2025, projects approximately $44 billion in U.S. creator ad spend for 2026. That is a forecast from that publication, not a verified full-year 2026 result or a global production-fee total.

The official release’s methodology includes direct sponsored partnerships, amplification of sponsored content and planned creator adjacencies. The latter can involve creators without a direct partnership. These public materials were checked November 2, 2026.

A broad market total cannot establish how much brands are commissioning in new creator films, much less predict equivalent growth for a particular production supplier or network.

ONCE’s relationship–asset–placement questions

This is a proposed buying method, not a universal platform classification or attribution standard.

Buying purposeWhat to establishReviewable delivery
The creator participates in the expressionWho participates, what they make or publish, and the agreed conditionsConfirmed collaboration, agreed content, publication record and applicable usage terms
Existing partnered content reaches more peopleThe exact asset, current product and market suitability, and permitted paid useAsset revision, usage arrangement, media activity and reporting
A brand ad appears in a relevant creator-content environmentInventory or context bought, brand creative used and available delivery evidenceMedia scope, ad asset and verifiable placement reporting

One project can include several purposes: commission a collaboration, then amplify it. Additional media expenditure does not automatically create another creator partnership. Use the distinctions to explain scope without counting the same charge twice.

Keep relationship status separate from placement

Associate each activity with the actual creative, its creator-relationship status and the media arrangement. Record a confirmed collaboration, agreed use of existing partnered content, or no direct partnership in this activity. Separately record planned and observable media delivery.

A screenshot of an ad near a creator is insufficient to put that person on the month’s partner roster. Adjacency may support an audience or context objective; it does not prove that the creator explained your product, received a sample or supported a particular claim.

Three different briefs for a China-linked home brand

Imagine a cleaning-appliance brand sourcing products from China and seeking overseas home audiences. This is a hypothetical planning example, not an ONCE client result.

If the objective is to hear a particular creator explain the product in their own home, commission the relevant participation, sampling, product checks and review. Nearby ad inventory cannot substitute for that expression.

If suitable partnered content already exists and the task is wider distribution, assess the asset, usage conditions, media plan and reporting before buying a near-identical new film.

If the task is to place an existing brand demonstration in relevant home-content environments, ask the media buyer to define obtainable inventory, specifications and reporting. Verify whether the proposal can actually deliver a named creator, placement or quantity. Audience targeting alone cannot establish that every impression appeared next to that person.

Allocate against the missing capability

Is the missing element personal expression, accurate product explanation, an appropriate reusable asset, or distribution to a suitable audience? Each answer changes the relative need for collaboration, production and media work.

Start with required tasks instead of a generic allocation percentage. Seek separate scope for collaboration and necessary production, applicable usage, media expenditure, management and review. Identify items already included in a package and conditions for unresolved charges. A market-size headline is not a project budget benchmark.

Keep accepted assets, actual publication, paid exposure and business outcomes distinct when reporting. Increased exposure is not increased partnership count; a published collaboration is not, alone, evidence of incremental sales.

For a brand working with Chinese supply partners, assign product facts and sample accuracy to a named contact. Give the market team responsibility for the communication objective and the buyer responsibility for the media scope. These roles can be combined, but their answers should remain explicit.

Build a service around the connection

For ONCE’s progression toward a global creator network, the useful capability extends beyond a contact list: connect the required expression, available assets, collaboration conditions and media task. A category that includes media spending is not wholly an addressable production-services market.

Document one real activity before expanding creator recruitment, filming or media coordination. The operating record should explain what was purchased and what was observed. This is a service-design recommendation, not a claim of existing ONCE revenue or performance. Explore ONCE’s video marketing articles for related planning.
