Your media partner reports an improved Reddit optimization score and proposes more video assets for the next month. Your production team in China receives the request, but not the business problem behind it. Is this a routine edit, a new shoot, or an action that should wait?
This is a hypothetical purchasing situation. A platform recommendation can be useful without becoming an automatic production order. Brand teams need to connect each proposed action to its purpose, the work it creates and the evidence that will inform the next decision.
The new announcement concerns campaign scoring
On October 20, 2026, Reddit announced a Campaign optimization score combining a 0–100% rating with tailored guidance during campaign creation and editing, rolling out through October. Reddit had already described an account-level Optimization Score in July 2025. The campaign announcement should not be presented as the platform's first recommendations system.
The newer announcement also reports historical internal relationships between scores and costs, with a disclaimer that results are not typical and may vary. It does not establish a guaranteed cost reduction from raising an individual brand's score. This article does not turn those aggregate observations into a client forecast.
ONCE analysis: use the score as an entry point for review. Procurement should assess whether the team examined relevant recommendations and made defensible decisions, rather than relying on a score threshold disconnected from the approved brief.
Three questions a score cannot settle on its own
First, does the proposed action fit the task? Introducing a new product, selling an established item and recruiting channel partners require different definitions of success.
Second, was the approved action implemented accurately? Discussed, approved and active in the intended campaign are different states. Preserve the object, date and relevant asset version rather than relying on a score screenshot.
Third, how will the result be assessed? A platform rating is not profit, qualified enquiry quality or demonstrated brand understanding. Define the business objective in advance and identify the limits of the evidence when results are still uncertain.
This approach does not mean ignoring recommendations. A lower score may point to a useful investigation, while a high score does not end the need for review. The deliverable is a reasoned response to the relevant advice.
The ONCE recommendation change order
Before an action becomes new work, record five items. This is an ONCE purchasing method, not a feature Reddit has announced.
- Recommendation and object: preserve the actual wording, campaign, date and affected setting or asset. Do not invent a recommendation to complete the record.
- Business rationale: identify the known problem or unconfirmed hypothesis it addresses. Raising the score alone is an incomplete purpose.
- Work affected: separate configuration, re-editing, filming, translation, licensing and page work. Name the responsible team and cost scope.
- Decision: adopt, run a limited trial, defer or decline, with a reason and an authorized owner.
- Review conditions: agree the evidence and objective for reassessment, and what further changes require approval.
There is no universal number of days after which every action becomes evaluable. Media and analysis teams should set the review timing around the actual data, conversion delay and decision. The production partner supplies accurate asset identities and delivery records.
Turn “more videos” into an identifiable production task
Suppose a partner proposes alternative openings. This is an example, not a claim that Reddit gives this advice to every account. Ask whether the proposal requires different buying motivations or merely a different order of existing footage.
Approved footage might support a re-edit with new text and sound treatment. A different use setting or character relationship may require planning, samples, talent and a shoot. Neither should disappear inside an undefined “additional assets” line.
A limited scope could test whether a specified audience understands a storage task using existing approved shots, with no new performance claim. A new setting would require separate approval. That is a scope example, not an approved project or a performance prediction.
Platform advice does not automatically make new production free within a retainer. Equally, exporting more files does not prove the recommendation has been addressed. Check the agreed handover into media activation and the approved version used.
Accept management work and creative production against different promises
Process acceptance for a media engagement can cover reviewed recommendations, documented decisions, accurate execution and named owners for unresolved items. Business performance should be assessed separately against the agreed objectives and available measurement. A completed process does not guarantee the commercial result.
Creative acceptance covers the promised scripts, assets, usage rights, versions and adaptations. New filming or language work should follow the agreed change process. Correcting an error in the original delivery belongs to the original responsibility. A score does not determine which of those situations applies.
An integrated supplier can still itemize media handling, creative exploration and new production. That lets a brand see where budget goes and prevents several teams from presenting the same score movement as separate proof of their contribution.
Retain decisions that support the next month
You do not need every dashboard screenshot. Preserve recommendations that affected investment, the approved actions, asset identities, implementation changes and review conclusions. Revisit them when the product, market or objective changes rather than treating each decision as permanent.
For a continuing production partnership, maintaining the relationship between a recommendation and an appropriate creative response is a possible service asset. It is not a claim that ONCE has achieved advertising gains, built an automated management platform or deployed such a database.
When discussing your next creative brief with ONCE, bring the actual recommendation, approved business objective and existing asset list. Define the production task before deciding whether a new China-based shoot is justified.
