A creator says a product felt quieter than their old one during a low-setting trial at home. By the time the localized ad reaches approval, the line says “silent in every home.” The voice sounds natural. The sentence is shorter. The opinion is no longer the one the creator expressed.

For overseas brands coordinating localized content with China-based teams, ONCE recommends reviewing opinion changes separately from fluency, subtitle timing and voice quality. Preserve who is judging, how widely the statement applies, how strongly it is expressed and which conditions matter.

A current signal, with limits

Rakuten Advertising’s November 2, 2026 survey summary reports 54% comfort with AI translation versus 38% with an entirely AI-generated creator review. It attributes the findings to a September survey with Suzy across the US, UK, Australia, France and Brazil. The public summary does not provide sample size, weighting details or the full questionnaire.

These are stated attitudes, not measured conversion effects or a forecast for your campaign. They suggest a useful production distinction: assisting expression and supplying the opinion deserve separate scrutiny. The workflow proposed here is ONCE’s analysis, not a tested outcome of that survey.

Four checks that go beyond word matching

Start with the original recording or a creator-confirmed source script. Compare it with the target-language dialogue, subtitles and final cut. If the source is brand-written copy, identify it as such rather than treating a creator’s performance as evidence of personal experience.

CheckMeaning that can drift
Speaker“I found” becomes an objective product claim, or manufacturer information becomes first-person experience.
ScopeOne use becomes long-term experience; one model becomes the whole range; a specified audience becomes everyone.
Strength“Good” becomes “best”; “might suit” becomes “essential”; relatively quiet becomes silent.
ConditionsThe setting, room, procedure or comparison disappears, leaving an apparently unconditional conclusion.

This does not require literal translation. A natural rewrite can preserve meaning. It should not invent experience, remove a material qualification or replace uncertainty with certainty. Native-language review and product-fact review address different responsibilities.

Choose among correction, renewed creator input and a brand statement

Return to the fictional noise example. Assume the creator’s actual experience was limited to one low-setting use at home. This is not an ONCE client quote or a product test.

Correct the translation when the machine strengthened the statement. Preserve the personal impression, relative comparison and relevant conditions. “Quieter than my old one” should not become “silent” simply because the latter fits the edit.

Ask for genuine creator input when the proposed message requires a broader opinion. A longer-term assessment needs the creator’s real experience and confirmation. A new approval should not merely ask someone to endorse an experience invented for them.

Use a separate brand explanation when verified specifications or test material support a different statement. Establish its source, conditions and scope rather than placing it inside the creator’s first-person account. A specification sheet does not become personal experience through narration.

These routes imply different work. Translation correction, re-recording and a new factual explanation should not all be described as one more subtitle revision. Otherwise the proposal hides both the scope and the creator’s required involvement.

Review the cut, not only the approved transcript

A correct translation can still be misleadingly assembled. If the qualification is in the preceding sentence and the short edit begins with “especially quiet,” every retained subtitle may match its line while the overall meaning expands. Thumbnail text and the headline beside a shopping link should also match the supported opinion.

Keep timecode links between the source passage, translation and short cut. Record where a removed condition is restored. A qualification can be communicated through dialogue, the demonstrated situation or an explanatory element; it should remain understandable to the viewer rather than merely present in the archive.

AI dubbing and voice replication also require their own agreed uses. Language approval does not establish that a voice, likeness or source clip may be used in every market or advertising placement. Confirm those arrangements separately before production.

Process disclosure and opinion authenticity need separate checks

Rakuten Advertising’s current Affiliate Network Policies and Guidelines prohibit network publishers from using AI to generate false reviews, testimonials or endorsements, and require relevant disclosure under applicable law or platform policy. These are that network’s policies, not a newly established universal platform rule.

From a production perspective, saying that AI translated a video explains part of the process; it does not establish that the speaker had the experience described. Equally, a genuine source opinion does not settle the channel’s AI or commercial-relationship disclosure requirements. Review the opinion’s source, the production treatment and the publication requirements separately.

A survey’s comfort percentage is not an exemption from any of those checks.

Deliver a change record that future versions can use

For each changed opinion, ONCE proposes recording the source line and timecode, target-language line, change found under the four checks, selected correction route, and confirmed version with its reviewer. A “no change” finding should follow actual review. Back-translation can flag differences but cannot substitute for understanding both languages and the full context.

Separate transcription, AI drafting, target-language review, opinion comparison, creator confirmation or re-recording, and finished-video checks in the scope. Do not charge twice for included work. Missing source records may require preparation before localization; AI does not justify a fixed savings promise.

For ONCE’s sustained content services, a useful language asset is an approved expression connected to its source and conditions. A detached collection of persuasive review lines loses the information needed to reuse them responsibly. Any reduction in revisions or improvement in campaign results still needs real project evidence.

For your next review, select one subjective claim and run the four checks before approving the localized version. ONCE’s production planning articles provide related preparation methods.

Sources and scope

Rakuten Advertising, “AI Disclosure and Creator Trust: What Shoppers Want Brands to Know This Peak Season,” November 2, 2026; “Affiliate Network Policies and Guidelines,” current policy page without an asserted publication date. Both checked November 4. The four checks, change record and noise example are ONCE’s proposed methods. No private creator footage, client account or campaign results were examined.
