Your outgoing YouTube agency says the handover is complete: your colleague now has an Owner role and can upload videos. Before ending the engagement, establish which permission system that label belongs to and who can manage the underlying control arrangements.

ONCE recommends a brand-led handover rehearsal. The question is whether your people can continue the agreed work, understand the control structure and locate the content needed for future updates without asking the former agency to operate on their behalf.

Owner is not a complete handover description

YouTube’s channel permissions guide says the Owner role can manage permissions and delete a channel, but cannot transfer ownership to other users. Broad operating access alone does not establish an ownership transfer.

The separate Brand Account ownership guide describes owners and a primary owner. Its procedure for making yourself primary owner requires at least seven days as an owner; a manager cannot change the primary-owner role. Identify the actual account structure before selecting a procedure.

These documents were checked on November 2, 2026; a common publication date was not established. This is a platform-control discussion, not a determination of copyright or contractual ownership, and the rules are not presented as a new launch.

ONCE’s handover rehearsal

This is a proposed procurement method, not a YouTube certification. Your brand’s designated person verifies the agreed work while the outgoing team supplies the relevant records. Deleting content, moving channels and changing real publishing plans are unnecessary as test actions.

CapabilityUseful acceptance recordInsufficient evidence by itself

Not every filming engagement includes editable source files. Define the package commercially, then verify what was promised. Platform permissions cannot substitute for missing production deliverables.

Record a result, an action and an owner

For each item, retain its current result, remaining action, responsible person and review date. Working upload access and unresolved primary-owner arrangements should appear as separate findings. Neither should disappear inside an overall “completed” label.

Inventory connected scheduling, reporting and asset services as well. Verify each against its own requirements and identify who controls the account. Studio access does not establish that every external connection has been handed over. Avoid silently leaving the new workflow dependent on an outgoing contractor’s personal account.

Plan backward from the exit date

Consider a hypothetical brand changing its overseas content team next week. The replacement team can upload, but the relevant Brand Account’s primary-owner position remains with a departing agency member. This is an illustration, not an ONCE client case.

First establish the current structure, authorized people and applicable prerequisites. The documented seven-day condition is not a promise that the entire handover will finish seven days after the procurement team sends an email. Acceptance of invitations, account configuration, records and unresolved issues need their own plan.

Operational continuity and control changes can have separate milestones. Do not promise that every dependent operation will work immediately after the previous team leaves if its prerequisites remain unresolved.

Changing suppliers also does not automatically require moving the channel. YouTube’s channel-move guide warns that an incorrect transfer can delete the wrong channel. If a move is necessary, establish its purpose and applicable procedure separately; it is not a routine acceptance test.

Specify the exit package when buying the service

Separate recurring production and operations, permission-setup assistance, end-of-service records and handover support in the scope. Before a new channel is created, agree whose account starts it, which brand representatives retain the appropriate control and who approves additional users.

Compare more than monthly video counts. Ask who maintains captions and masters, organizes approved cuts and answers unresolved questions at exit. Handover support need not be assumed free or separately chargeable; define it so historical investigation, missing files and account restructuring do not hide inside an undefined “all-inclusive” service.

Where production depends on China-based supply partners, give product facts a named owner on that side and publishing decisions a named owner in the market team. Retain the corresponding records so the next creative team can work from approved information rather than reverse-engineer a public video.

For ONCE’s progression toward managed content services, the reusable asset is a body of content and operating records that a client can continue using. A service that supports a clear exit can compete on ongoing delivery value. That is a business recommendation, not a measured retention or valuation claim.
