Your China-based content team films a product being placed in an attractive gift box. Your store offers gift wrapping for selected products only. When an AI shopping assistant is asked whether you offer gift wrapping, a bare “yes” may leave out the very condition that determines whether the customer can buy it.
This is a hypothetical example, not an ONCE case study. It illustrates a content decision: before selecting an answer type, decide whether the question has a complete, confirmed scope.
The new entry point makes answer format a business choice
Shopify's October 26, 2026 announcement places Knowledge base in the admin under Sales channels > Agentic. Merchants can review, edit and publish store facts. Facts drafted from scanned storefront pages remain unpublished until the merchant publishes them.
The current knowledge base help page describes Paragraph, Yes/No and Tags for additional facts. The selected Yes/No answer is the whole fact; Paragraph text is a source an agent can phrase in its own words. It also says admin-linked policies and contact details are published when created, so do not assume everything awaits a fresh approval.
These are documented Shopify behaviors, not guarantees of adoption or verbatim answers across AI platforms. ONCE's recommendation is to assess completeness before choosing the most convenient field.
Check confirmation, scope and form
The following is our proposed review method, not a new Shopify feature.
| Check | Question | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Confirmation | Has the responsible business owner confirmed the current service? | Keep unverified information in an internal work queue; unknown does not mean no |
| Scope | Does the question identify necessary products, markets, order routes and timing? | Rewrite an overbroad question before assigning a universal answer |
| Form | Can a binary answer express the complete fact? | Use an appropriate explanation when conditions matter, supported by a clear public page |
A well-scoped fact with two genuine answers can suit Yes/No. A service restricted to a collection or requiring a checkout selection needs its conditions preserved. Do not rely on an unrelated second fact to repair an overbroad first answer, or assume every agent will combine scattered qualifications.
“Pending confirmation” is an internal status in this workflow. We are not claiming Shopify offers a third boolean value. Assign unresolved questions to an owner and decide what to edit or withhold rather than filling gaps with a guess.
Work through one service before generating a large FAQ set
In the gift-wrapping example, ask operations to confirm eligible products, destinations, order routes, charges and how customers select the service. Then check whether the public service page states those conditions accurately.
A possible drafting pattern is: “Gift wrapping is available for the named collection when selected during purchase; see the gift-service page for eligibility and conditions.” Publish that only if the business facts are true. If the store's actual workflow cannot support the description, fix the offer or its presentation first.
Next ask customer questions: “Can this item be wrapped?” “Is the service available for my destination?” “Can I add it after ordering?” Missing answers should return to the service owner. An order-specific question may need a contact route rather than a permanent store-wide assertion.
Review the film, service page and AI fact together
Before shooting a gift-box scene, tell the production partner whether it represents standard packaging, a paid option or creative styling. Similar footage can imply very different offers. The absence of a spoken promise does not prevent the action from suggesting a service.
Review the relevant scene beside the public page and proposed knowledge base answer. None should turn limited availability into a universal offer. Preserve the same qualifications in localized copy, even when a shorter headline or smoother sentence would be easier.
For overseas marketing teams working with a Chinese supply chain, this can be a compact addition to the brief: what the scene represents, the approved service explanation and the conditions that must survive adaptation. Related planning is available in the ONCE video marketing articles.
Buy usable answers, not a question count
A supplier's scope can include unresolved questions, business-approved answers, necessary conditions, supporting public pages, language versions, publication status and a named maintenance owner. More entries do not necessarily cover more customer needs.
For acceptance, choose services that are easy to misunderstand. Ask both general and conditional questions and record whether the answer preserves eligibility and points to the correct next step. A successful response once is not a future accuracy guarantee; this is a gap-finding exercise.
When an offer changes, put the page, knowledge base entry and relevant footage on the same revision list. Start with one service and establish who approves, publishes and can withdraw it. That creates a maintainable explanation, rather than another batch of copy that loses its context after delivery.
