An ad can lose its idea in a perfectly clear sentence. If the picture reveals a product only at the end, an audio description that names the answer at the start changes the story. Withholding every visual detail is no better: the listener receives an explanation only after the moment has passed.

For overseas teams commissioning content from a China-based production partner, the useful question is not simply whether audio description is included. It is whether the script and edit let essential visual information arrive at a meaningful time. That is a creative-development task as well as a recording task.

A publishing feature is not a creative plan

As checked on October 18, 2026, YouTube’s official Add audio descriptions page lists access to Advanced features as the eligibility condition. A language’s original or dubbed track must exist before its descriptive track is added; the upload must use a supported audio-only format and be roughly the video’s length. The page does not provide a publication date. Verify the actual account and destination rather than assuming identical support in every embed or paid placement.

This is not only a platform possibility. P&G’s current Brands — People with Disabilities page says it has introduced descriptive tracks across the majority of its ads in the US, UK and Spain. That is a company statement, not evidence that the whole market has adopted the practice or that it produces a particular sales uplift.

ONCE’s inference is narrower: brands procuring accessible versions need someone to own the sequence of understanding, not merely the exported assets. This article addresses that production decision, not legal compliance or a complete accessibility specification.

Describe the clue without announcing the conclusion

Consider a hypothetical travel-bag commercial—not an ONCE project or a capacity test. A scarf, an eye mask and a folded jacket disappear from a tabletop, one by one. A wider final shot shows them inside the bag.

“She packs everything into a spacious travel bag” would identify the destination too early and add an unsubstantiated evaluation. A possible early description instead names a relevant object and its movement beyond the frame. The bag’s relationship to the objects is explained when the wider shot reveals it.

The objective is not to make the listener guess what sighted viewers already know. It is to preserve the intended release of information while supplying the visible action needed to follow it. If the brief is a straightforward packing demonstration, with no reveal, naming the object and action in the main narration may be the simpler choice.

W3C WAI’s Audio Content and Video Content and Description of Visual Information, both updated September 17, 2024, distinguish integrated description from separately delivered description. Their guidance supports planning space and describing relevant visual information without interpretive commentary. It does not supply the creative timing for an individual ad.

The ONCE Reveal Score

ONCE proposes a small working document: the Reveal Score. For each essential visual fact, record what it is, when the audience needs it, what existing sound already conveys, where the description can land, and what conclusion must not be announced yet. This is a proposed production method, not a certification or a tested performance system.

Sometimes a description must begin shortly before the picture changes to make the following dialogue intelligible. That is different from explaining the ending early. Review the clue and the conclusion separately.

Scribely’s June 19, 2026 production account of CoorDown’s #JustEvolve campaign describes involvement from an early edit, arranging description around dialogue, and delivering standard and extended versions. This is the supplier’s account; we have not independently watched or assessed the film here. Its reported reach is not used as evidence of description-driven results. The useful production lesson is early editorial involvement, not a universal prescription for comic delivery.

When the soundtrack is full, change the plan

Try a rough read against the edit before booking the final voice session. If the main script already communicates the necessary visual facts naturally, check completeness rather than adding duplicate narration. If brief gaps remain, audition separate descriptions without covering dialogue or meaningful effects.

If there is no usable space, the choices include rewriting main narration, changing shot holds, or making a separately paced described video. Faster speech is not a substitute for deciding which of these the brief permits. A longer described version also cannot simply donate its longer audio to a publishing feature that expects a roughly equal-length track.

Include blind or low-vision reviewers from the target language market in a small review when feasible. Ask what action they understood, when a relationship became clear, and whether a description disclosed an answer prematurely. A production team’s own audio-only pass is useful preparation, not a substitute for that participation. No such user test or result is claimed in this article.

For a brand working with a Chinese supplier, appoint an owner for approved product language and another for target-market editorial review. Quote script development, rough reads, review coordination, recording and mixing, alternate edits, and destination checks as actual work. Do not assume a translator or a voice performer has also been commissioned to approve product claims or assess the listening experience.

Keep the Reveal Score with the script and mix notes. A new shot, localized line or shorter cut can change what needs describing and when. Maintaining that relationship across versions is a possible recurring content service for ONCE to validate—not an existing revenue or efficiency claim.

Start with one consequential sequence. Decide what the listener needs to know there, then choose the versions and recording scope that can deliver it.
