A connected-TV commercial used to arrive with one predetermined ending: one headline, one product message, and one call to action. Amazon Ads began loosening that assumption when it announced Dynamic TV Creative on May 11, 2026. Advertisers provide a base creative, while Amazon can adapt the interactive format, headline, product details, and call to action using signals such as shopping behavior, Prime Video engagement, product availability, and geography.

That does not remove creative decisions. It moves the last decision closer to the impression.

For a global brand working with a China-based production team, the next brief should not simply request “one 30-second TVC plus cutdowns.” A more durable buying unit is a stable proof master plus a controlled commerce layer. The first protects what the product truly is and does. The second governs what the platform may change around it.

What Amazon confirmed—and what it did not

Amazon’s announcement describes Dynamic TV Creative as a capability for Interactive Video Ads on Prime Video. The advertiser uploads one base asset. At the time of impression, Amazon can adjust the interaction format, CTA, headline, and product information according to the viewer’s apparent stage in the shopping journey.

The named CTA options include Add to Cart, Send to Phone, Save to Cart, and Visit Brand Store. Amazon also says the system may use product availability and contextual signals such as geography. At launch, the feature was available to selected US advertisers that sell on Amazon and run Prime Video campaigns; Amazon said broader access would follow.

Those facts establish a platform capability, not universal availability or a guaranteed performance result. They also do not establish that Amazon will rewrite the entire product demonstration. The verified change is narrower and more useful: one time-based brand film can now be combined with different transaction messages and interaction routes.

The ONCE two-layer CTV master

Layer 1: the invariant proof film

The proof film owns everything that must remain true for every audience and buying stage: product identity, physical behavior, use conditions, visible result, and brand recognition.

Consider a coffee machine. The master can show filling the reservoir, grinding, extraction, and the finished cup. A dynamic headline should never turn footage of a dual-cup model into a claim for another SKU. A lower-funnel CTA should not make an unverified feature appear true merely because the destination is closer to purchase.

Avoid burning volatile fields into this layer. Short-term price, discount, Prime benefit, availability, and one fixed CTA can make a long-lived film expire for reasons unrelated to its production quality. The ending can preserve the product outcome and brand memory without hard-coding the only possible action.

Layer 2: the controlled commerce layer

The commerce layer contains elements that may legitimately change with customer context or product state: headline, product image, price or Prime information, interaction method, and CTA.

Control does not mean uploading more variants. It means recording when each field is allowed.

Dynamic elementSuitable conditionDisallowed combination
Visit Brand StoreEarly-stage discovery or comparison across a rangeA master built around one limited bundle that lands on a generic store page
Send to PhoneSpecifications, setup guidance, or a longer mobile decisionThe destination SKU differs from the product shown
Add to CartA simple, stable, directly purchasable itemHigh-value customization, unresolved fit, or professional installation dependency
Price or Prime detailCurrent data from the correct sellable itemA long-lived film that visually shows a different pack or obsolete offer

This is not merely a media instruction sheet. It is part of creative delivery. It tells operators which combinations are commercially valid and which technically possible combinations should never go live.

Reverse the workflow from the final deliverable

Write a film that works without the dynamic layer

Turn off the headline, price, product card, and CTA. A viewer should still understand what the product is, what action occurred, and why the result is credible. If removing the dynamic layer leaves only mood and beauty shots, the master is not carrying product proof. If muting the ad removes the critical action, an interactive overlay cannot repair it.

This is different from a CTV pause-ad canvas. A pause ad must become readable at a stopped moment. Dynamic TV Creative still begins with a film that unfolds over time. The two formats may share product stills and safe-zone materials, but they need different acceptance tests.

Deliver a dynamic-zone map from production

Production and post teams should identify areas that may carry a product card, headline, or interactive control, and areas that must remain clear for product action, performance, and brand recognition. Do not place the connector, control state, hand movement, or final result under the most likely overlay zone.

A practical delivery package includes:

  • One 16:9 master without hard-coded price, promotion, or fixed CTA;
  • A clean textless master, plus separate captions and audio deliverables;
  • Reusable product-action and result shots;
  • A dynamic-field list with allowed and prohibited combinations;
  • Safe-zone guidance, ASIN-to-product mapping, and version IDs;
  • Rights records for talent, music, typefaces, source media, territory, and term.

Brands already using Amazon’s broader automated media stack can compare this with ONCE’s guide to an agent-ready creative contract for Full-Funnel Campaigns. The shared requirement is controlled recombination. The difference is that a CTV master must also preserve narrative timing, large-screen legibility, and premium viewing quality.

Run four combination checks before launch

1. Narrative check

Disable each dynamic element and watch the master on its own. The commerce layer should sharpen the next action, not compensate for missing product logic.

2. Semantic check

Preview every approved headline, product detail, and CTA against the actual footage. Confirm SKU, use state, shopper stage, and destination. Reviewing components separately is insufficient; the real unit of risk is the combination.

3. Screen check

Review at living-room distance and inside the actual safe area. Check contrast, overlay obstruction, product scale, and the time available to read or act. A detail that feels obvious on an editing monitor may disappear on a television across the room.

4. Commerce-state check

Verify that ASIN, product image, price, inventory, Prime benefit, destination, and filmed pack all refer to the same sellable version. Dynamic systems can use current data, but the brand remains responsible for the source being accurate.

Do not value the system by the number of variants

A dynamic platform can produce many combinations. Combination count is not the same as usable creative coverage.

Use a denominator that reflects approved business use:

Cost per approved dynamic combination = (strategy and script + production + master post + dynamic-field design + combination QA + maintenance) ÷ combinations that pass product-truth, screen-safety, CTA-destination, and commerce-state checks.

This is a planning model, not an industry benchmark. Each brand should use its own production, review, and maintenance costs, and remove expired, disabled, or incorrectly routed combinations from the denominator.

One strong master plus a dynamic layer can be efficient when awareness, consideration, and conversion require the same product story but different headlines, product details, or CTAs. Multiple masters remain the better choice when stages need fundamentally different narratives, SKUs differ physically, markets require different claims, or talent and media rights do not travel together.

Put the final decision owner in the brief

Dynamic TV Creative does not make television storytelling obsolete. It makes the transaction message after that story less fixed.

The next CTV brief should first lock the product proof that cannot change, then define which fields the platform may change, which combinations are permitted, and what conditions pause a combination. The production partner owns accurate product action and a stable large-screen master. Media and commerce teams own the live offer, destination, and CTA truth.

Only when both layers can be reviewed independently does one base creative become a portfolio of useful ads instead of a collection of unexplained automatic variants.

Sources and evidence boundary

These sources support Amazon’s announced capability, scope, and dynamic fields. The two-layer master, combination checks, and cost denominator are ONCE analytical tools, not Amazon performance guarantees.
