A dealer's access to manufacturer marketing support is not, by itself, a funded video brief. Before a brand commissions local content, it needs to establish whether the applicable program includes production or only certain media costs—and who is buying the work.

For an overseas brand with products sourced from China, this matters on both sides of the relationship. Headquarters wants a consistent product story. A dealer wants its own people and services to appear. The producer needs a defined assignment and payment arrangement. A shared campaign does not make those responsibilities interchangeable.

Public guidelines reveal differences, not your eligibility

This is an evergreen procurement method, not a report of a new funding policy. The public pages below were checked on 16 October 2026; the applicable program version and account conditions still need confirmation.

Unverferth's Co-op Marketing Guidelines, marked last updated 25 September 2024, assign creative and layout costs to the dealership while addressing qualifying media space or time separately. The public Bryant Co-op Guidelines include local social-video production and call for script and storyboard preapproval. We found no clear version date on the Bryant page; it is not confirmation that a particular 2026 invoice qualifies.

The useful comparison is not a reimbursement rate. It is that the same funding label can conceal different eligible activities and approval routes. Obtain a project-specific answer rather than importing another manufacturer's published arrangement into your budget.

ONCE's Three-Role Start Sheet

This proposed planning method is not an official application form. It separates three decisions, even when one organization holds more than one role.

DecisionWho must answerWhat the answer needs to identify
Who commissions and pays for production? An authorized purchasing partyActual scope, producer payment arrangements and treatment if support is not approved
Which creative is approved for use?The brand or its authorized creative reviewerSpecific script, storyboard, local information and permitted changes
Which costs can be submitted, and how?The program's authorized administratorDealer, market, expense category, submission conditions and required records

“The film looks good” answers the creative question. It does not establish funding eligibility. Permission to apply is not an approved claim, and an approved claim is not cash already received.

If funding remains unconfirmed, assess production as a separately payable assignment. If the project depends on that support to be affordable, reduce its scope or wait for clarification. Do not silently deduct an expected contribution from the producer's invoice. Any conditional payment arrangement needs explicit agreement by the relevant parties, not a last-minute transfer of funding uncertainty to the crew.

Design for a product story and a real local business

Consider a fictional air-purifier brand working with an overseas dealer. This is not an ONCE case study and contains no funding or performance result.

Approved product demonstrations and brand material could come from headquarters or a production organized near the Chinese supply chain. The local dealer could contribute its team, showroom and service explanation. Confirm sample differences, permissions, market suitability and actual approval requirements before treating material as reusable.

Keep local offers and contact details in sections that can be revised without rewriting every shared product explanation. But editable does not mean unrestricted: a different promotion or service promise may require a fresh review.

Adding a dealer's mark to a headquarters film may leave an important question unanswered: what can this business actually provide locally? Conversely, a promotion-heavy local video may fail to explain the product. Plan both functions rather than assuming one generic asset solves them.

Assign production records and claim administration separately

Describe scripting, filming, editing and localization as actual production work. If media buying, campaign execution or application assistance is also purchased, specify the real service separately. Do not relabel production as media spending or describe services that did not occur to fit a funding category.

Where the applicable program requires records, name the person who will retain creative approval, supplier documentation and genuine placement or campaign records. A producer may supply the agreed film and production material without access to the dealer's funding account, media systems or submission permissions. Administrative assistance should be scoped, not assumed to accompany every filming order.

If the work is already complete when a missing approval is discovered, report the situation honestly to the administrator and ask whether an allowed remedy exists. Until there is an answer, budget on the basis that support is unconfirmed. Do not manufacture an earlier approval date or treat one exception as a standing rule.

Test one dealer before building a network offer

The current PrecisionLocal co-op and group marketing page, checked on 16 October 2026, separately describes media and creative templates, local execution and claims-administration support. That is evidence of the supplier's stated service categories, not independent evidence of results or a claim that ONCE already provides equivalent administration.

ONCE's business inference is that dealer content can require a broader service design than a quantity of finished videos: shared product footage, local stories, creative review and record handoff may each need a defined delivery. Productizing that work only makes sense when actual dealer demand, review effort and reuse justify it.

Start with one dealer that intends to use the content. Obtain the three decisions, complete the creative and follow through to real use and the agreed record handoff. Then identify what the next location can genuinely reuse and what still needs local confirmation.

Bring the program information, purchasing party, review contacts, target market, available material and intended placements to a discussion of ONCE's video production solutions. Settle the responsibilities before buying a volume of edits. Marketing support should make a project workable, not leave everyone waiting for someone else to pay.
