A decision-scene image shows a product in the situation a buyer is trying to resolve. OpenAI's October 2026 announcement describes an initial US test of visual ads during image generation for Free and Go users. Access and specifications need checking with the actual advertiser; this is a production planning guide, not a claim that every brand can launch the format today.
Choose one buying decision for the image
Write the audience's question before commissioning variants. For a travel accessory, the question might concern how it fits in a carry-on; for a small appliance, it might concern the space and action needed to use it. Use only situations the actual sample and product information can support.
Decide what the viewer must see to understand the answer: scale, the relevant feature, a hand completing the action or the relationship to another object. A scene that needs a long explanation outside the frame may need a different composition.
Give the crew a specific scene brief
Specify the approved product variant, the demonstrated action, necessary props, important details and intended destination. Include a reference that shows framing and one that documents the product. Creative mood references and product references serve different purposes and should remain identifiable.
Capture a clean product view and a complete use scene. Keep logos, controls, included parts and dimensions accurate. Where generation extends the background, compare the product and its contact with hands or surfaces against the real reference before approving the image.
Make variants useful to the decision
Change a meaningful variable such as setting, viewpoint or the buyer's task. Record what changed and why. A pile of colour treatments around the same ambiguous image does not provide different answers to the buying question.
Check the actual crop and any associated text in the advertiser's preview. Keep the product explanation on the destination page consistent with the image. If a scene uses an optional accessory or a proposed feature, resolve its presentation before delivery.
Separate production acceptance from advertising results
- Production review asks whether the scene is accurate and understandable.
- Placement review asks whether the approved files fit the available ad product.
- Campaign evaluation uses the actual reporting and attributable outcomes.
